Three New Students Join Our Laboratory
We are delighted to welcome three new students to our laboratory at the beginning of the new academic year! Each of them brings different interests and skills, and we look forward to working together on some exciting research topics.
Jan Svoboda, a first-year Master's student joining us from his previous studies in Analytical Chemistry who has already demonstrated his enthusiasm for experimental work during the summer. Jan will focus on photogrammetry and measuring the thermal conductivity of wood-based materials and their char residues. If time permits, he will also use the measured properties to model the charring rate of these materials in cone calorimeter experiments.
Jakub Hronza, also a first-year Master's student, joins us with previous experience in Python programming, which he is eager to develop further. Jakub work will focus on developing a Python-based tool for determining thermal decomposition kinetic parameters using mathematical optimisation methods, particularly for wood-based materials. He will also explore different approaches to describing thermal decomposition through various reaction schemes.
Theodor Glatter, a third-year Bachelor's student, has expressed an interest in learning computational fire modelling. He will therefore begin working with FDS as part of the KVAN-SAL project. His task will be to extend our existing box model of a reduced-scale NIST compartment and prepare it for future experiments focused on separating the individual components of heat flux.
We warmly welcome all three students to the team and wish them a successful academic year, plenty of interesting discoveries, and, most importantly, that they enjoy their time in our laboratory!
