Our Students Presented Photogrammetry at the Night of Scientists
As part of the Night of Scientists event, our students presented a popular science video introducing photogrammetry and its applications in fire engineering. The automated photogrammetric apparatus used in this work was designed and built by Ondřej Dupal using a combination of 3D-printed components, a commercial digital camera, and an Arduino-based control system.
Photogrammetry is a technique that reconstructs three-dimensional objects from a series of photographs taken from different viewpoints. It enables accurate measurements of the shape and volume of irregular objects, making it a valuable tool in many fields of research. In fire engineering, photogrammetry can be used to determine the volume of charred materials, providing important input data for computational fire simulations.
The video was presented by Ondřej Dupal and Kryštof Majer. It is available as part of the Night of Scientists archive and can be viewed here: https://www.nocvedy.cz/archiv/udalost/2745-mereni-objemu-pomoci-fotografie-a-jeho-vyuziti-v-pozarnich-prumyslu
