Double Success at IAFSS Symposium 2026 in La Rochelle, France

At the beginning of June, Vojtěch Šálek together with Lucie Hasalová from the Technical Institute of Fire Protection, attended the 15th International Symposium of the International Association for Fire Safety Science (IAFSS) in La Rochelle, France, the world's leading conference in the field of fire safety science.

Prior to the symposium, the MaCFP-4 (Measurement and Computation of Fire Phenomena) workshop took place. MaCFP is an international initiative aimed at bridging experimental fire research and numerical fire modelling. Its objective is to develop high-quality experimental databases for the validation and further development of fire models. The Laboratory of Fire Engineering has been actively involved in this initiative for many years in collaboration with the Technical Institute of Fire Protection. During this year's workshop, Vojtěch and Lucie were invited to serve as co-chairs of the Condensed Phase Phenomena subgroup, where they presented a summary of recent experimental results and contributed to the scientific coordination of this research area.

In addition, two posters were presented at the symposium. The first focused on the use of photogrammetry for determining the bulk density of charred wood remains, while the second addressed heat flux measurements during full-scale electric vehicle fire tests. The former was awarded 1st place in the poster competition among more than 200 contributions from research institutions around the world.

The active role within the MaCFP programme and the award for the best poster demonstrate that the research conducted at the Laboratory of Fire Engineering is gaining increasing recognition within the international fire safety science community.
